Screenspace, Part3
Narrative complement to the Screenspace installation
This world map plots the global distribution of James Turrell’s extant Skyspaces, many of which ironically fall along the hurricane belt. With the realization that this Enlightenment worldview of a pure sky is now an inadequate schema for grappling with our present climatic regime. In Skyspace, sky is framed in such abstract terms that that even Photoshop’s new AI-powered Sky Replacement tool doesn’t recognize it.

This is an extra scroll of thought that posits new typologies for a rapidly changing, post-Turrellian climate, for example some temporary canopies and “weather rooms” for seasonal gathering and polychromic projection along the storm-prone stretch of Galveston Island, Texas.
