INFO:
This RISD 2050 project explores the future of open-air arts education at RISD, through the research and design of the outdoor classroom. Looking beyond makeshift tents and mechanical ventilators that mark our pandemic era, it aims to stoke the architectural imagination for transitioning into a future where healthy studio environments, outdoor pedagogies, and collective rights to air and shade become essential to the academic experience.
Part-canopy, part-picnic mat, the resulting open-ended fabric book of reference projects encourages spending time oudoors (and is washable after use!). The dye submimated publication is made from offcut textiles. Snap-fastened tabs inviting future pages to be appended to the patchwork form in any direction. Includes reflections on open-air education history and futures, and bonus interviews with Assemble in London and the Garden Department in Amsterdam.
